Mary Lois Meredith was born in an old farm house on a dirt country road during harvest on October 12, 1940. As the oldest she was farmhand to her father, the late Donald C. Meredith. She was soon joined on the county line by sisters the late Betty (Jim Morlog), Donna (the late Victor Green) and baby brother Bill (Lela Elliott). Lois followed in the footsteps of her mother, the late Eva Fader. After receiving her teacher’s training at London Teachers’ College, Lois taught elementary school in Brantford, ON and London, ON for over a decade. Lois answered the call to teach Missionary kids in Burundi. After a brief return to Canada she was done with winter and spent the remainder of her working life balancing books for the Free Methodist Church in Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Haiti. During her many travels she often brought home souvenirs for her many nieces and nephews: Cyndi (Paul), Craig, Kay (Steve), the late Chris, Laura (Phil), the late Derek, Kelly, Taylor, Brayden, Meredith, Morgan, JayC and Arthur. One time she even brought her widowed father a wife, her coworker the late Doris Moore. Lois spent her retirement staying involved on boards and committees, hosting and visiting friends from around the world, keeping up to date on current events and sharing her views and knowledge with others. Lois is also survived by her uncle Dr. Ray Meredith. On March 27, 2025 Lois joined a family reunion hosted by her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Already in attendance are her Uncle Eldon who was murdered in his last year of medical school when Lois was very young; all her grandparents; the sister she lost to cancer at 43; both her parents; her musically gifted nephews, and the rest of her aunts and uncles. Lois’s friends and family are invited to meet at the Zion Free Methodist Church, Sombra Ontario (corner of Mandaumin and Bentpath) on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 10:00am for a time of memories and to continue her legacy by sharing the good news. Fellowship time to follow at Charlemont Free Methodist Church, Wallaceburg, Ontario (corner of Brigden and Kent) at 12 noon. Donations can be made to the ShareWord Global (formerly Gideons International in Canada).

Charlene had many friends who loved her dearly. She always had a smile, a laugh, and a kind word for anyone she came across. She truly was a kind hearted friend to all. It was likely her beautiful blue eyes, big smile and friendly disposition that won the heart of her true love, Norm. They shared their life together raising their girls, enjoying many family meals together, often with a host of friends at the table, camping, and many summers at their cottage on Beauty Lake. Sitting in one of her many rocking chairs Charlene enjoyed visiting and chatting with her Beauty Lake neighbours and listening to the loons in the peaceful tranquility of Beauty Lake while knitting one of her famous dishcloths. She also enjoyed sitting in the boat reading while Norm sat peacefully with her trying to catch their dinner. Charlene followed in her mother’s footsteps and chose a career in nursing, working as an RPN for 40 years at St Joseph’s Hospital in Sarnia. She loved her job, her patients, and especially the girls she worked with, whose friendship she cherished into her final days. Charlene enjoyed country music, watching the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, reading in her rocking chair, knitting, spending time with friends, and most of all, time with her family where a meal was often on the table with everyone around it. Her greatest joy was her family and her incredible kindness often caused friends to feel like family as well. Charlene was always excited to chat and listen to stories, making everyone feel important and heard. Charlene comes from a long line of strong matriarchs and has left this legacy with her girls, along with the greatest example of loving kindness. We love you to the moon and back. Charlene’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and staff on the Continuing and Palliative Care Floor of Bluewater Health. Their impeccable care, respect, and compassion is second to none. Mom was honoured to be cared for so well on the very floor she nursed on.
